Wild & Free

The educational and experience program that will unleash your longing for the wild and free. Careful with the dosage, you might want more!

When we first thought about an ideal place to build our home, we imagined a secluded house surrounded by the forest. This vast woodland striped by fresh water springs, not by highways is what won our hearts. Wilderness represents a place where we connect directly with nature. We explore its flora and fauna, try to understand it, to get closer to it. We listen to the song of birds that migrate over this region, we wash our face with water from the springs we come across. Step by step, we feel more and more free. The inhibitions disappear.

A rich biodiversity

We recently celebrated the International Day for Biodiversity. The area we live in, except for being on the border with the Risnjak National Park, is a part of the European ecological network Natura 2000. This makes it one of the most biologically valuable areas not only in Croatia, but also in Europe. The unique mosaic of habitats and the presence of all three large carnivores contributed to this. We consider ourselves lucky to have seen bears, wolves and lynxes and many other wild animals in person. That is why we have managed to gather so many photo and video materials that we are glad to share with you.

A unique experience

We experienced a wonderful encounter few years ago – we met a wolf pack. While we were busy with our thoughts and work, a part of the pack with their few months old puppies were carelessly passing by. When our eyes met, it was so natural. Like we used to meet every day. Such a unique feeling that is hard to describe. After a few moments, an alpha male the pack leader appeared in the distance. The scene that followed still brings me tears of joy. As in some wondrous theatrical play, the wolves began to run merrily towards each other. When they met, you could feel the same attachment and love that is felt in close families. The day quickly turned into night, and the wolves retreated into their wilderness, the great vast forest. But to this day, passing by, I look around hoping to see them again.

If you want to experience a breath of wildlife and hear the many anecdotes of encounters with wildlife, sign up for the Wild & Free educational program.
