Village life seems ideal during summer as nature thrives and the fresh air provides much-needed refreshment. Most of our guests admits that would love to move into our neighborhood. But they hesitate thinking of icy winters which was the main reason we felt drawn to move to Gorski kotar. So, we switched life in the city for village life and we never regret it. Just thinking about the lock-down makes us feel blessed for moving to Hrib before the pandemic.
Morning strolls
As soon as I open the door, I step into the forest, right into wilderness. The sharp air wakes me up immediately while the breath-taking view over the mountains opens my heart so wide, I can barely hold it from spreading around. The last few days have been especially beautiful since my usual morning stroll has been accompanied by my favorite winter sound – snow creaking underfoot. The dogs soon get all my attention because what kind of a game is it if you don’t dive into the snow. Watch Kinai enjoying it. Admit that you are tempted to join him!
After calming down, we begin to seek wild animal’s tracks. They detect it by smell, while I use my sight. Every day represents a new intriguing story that we follow as a thrilling detective series.
Village life surrounded by wilderness
Besides exploring their tracks, we often have the privilege to witness the presence of wild animals live. We don’t own a TV for more than a decade now so we rather spend time looking out of the window. There is a small water source just in front of our main living room window so we often see various animals walking around. Sometimes there’s a squirrel, sometimes a deer. It is so interesting to observe how they got used to our presence. Our daughter Asia greets them cheerfully, they look up curiously and then continue foraging for food in the snow-covered vegetation. Blackberry leaves are a real treat as they remain green for a long time despite the cold.
To sum it all, village life is dynamic. Nature generously offers all the resources at its disposal for our well-being. It is up to us to learn how to use it while respecting its laws and balance.
